Typical situation: Office or commercial building, tenant or floor owner doing an alteration and their general contractor does the alarm or sprinkler changes. What notice can or should we be sending to our subscriber? Thank you! Jeff ********************** Response ********************** Commercial fire alarms are typically under contract for monitoring. Smart fire alarm companies that do the legally required inspections and provide repair service put those services under contract using the Fire All in One providing for RMR payments. If your subscriber is under Service Plan, paying RMR, then you should notify the subscriber that having another alarm company [or anyone for that matter] will void the Warranty under the contract and will also affect the Service Plan because you will not repair issues caused by another who worked on the system. Keep in mind that not all repair service is covered by the Service Plan. Thus, while the subscriber can have someone else work on the system whatever issues arise will not be covered by your Service Plan. At very least, it can cause confusion and it's not a good idea. Of course you can use the opportunity to find out why the subscriber didn't call you in, assuming you weren't given the option of servicing the system. If you do not have a Service Plan in place then the subscriber is at liberty to bring in anyone it wants to work on that system. Your role, if any, will be to inspect that system and report your findings and to render any repairs the subscriber requests and agrees to pay for. ************************* STANDARD FORMS Alarm / Security / Fire and related Agreements. click here: www.alarmcontracts.com *************************** CONCIERGE LAWYER SERVICE PROGRAM FOR THE ALARM INDUSTRY - You can check out the program and sign up here: https://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/concierge or contact our Program Coordinator Stacy Spector, Esq at 516 747 6700 x 304. *********************** ALARM ARTICLES: You can always read our Articles on our website at ww.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/alarm-articles updated daily ******************** THE ALARM EXCHANGE - the alarm industries leading classified and business exchange - updated daily ************************* Wondering how much your alarm company is worth?
