Training subs and should police do the training from June 7 2014 article
************************
Ken –
Part of any installation, takeover and service is a thorough briefing of the customer on the proper use of the alarm system.  Should happen each and every time, of course in varying degrees.  That use should include not only false alarm reduction but also how to best utilize the system quickly and easily and also to be able to recognize faults and other abnormalities.  The technicians should be well versed in their presentations and if necessary, training should include a good review of methods of communicating with people.  Dealers must build it into the overall time their people spend with the customer, it's a must-do!
Regarding the police teaching alarm users, out of two, I've had two bad experiences when I observed this process.  First was when a big city PD here in Texas held a mandatory hearing for users who had excessive nuisance alarms.  The user as well as the dealer are required to attend these meetings or suffer a civil fine.  On a particular occasion, the recommendations the officer gave the user were textbook but not practical in real life for their actual situation.  The officer would have none of the reality.  Second time was when I attended a meeting between my local PD and a specific group of residents that were being targeted because opportunities existed due to their ethnicity and religious habits.  When the subject of alarm/security systems arose, literally 90% of what the host officers stated was just plain wrong.  At the end of the meeting I approached the captain in charge, introduced myself, briefed him of my qualifications and pointed out there was plenty of incorrect information passed along and offered to put together a session for his people so that they would be able to speak about security systems with some accuracy.  Never heard a word back.  The officers in both cases were there to primarily complete the eight hour tour.  What matters in both cases is that in cases of electronic, and sometimes physical security, WE have the experience NOT the police.  Before they take over the situation, show your customer that your specialty is their alarm.

The Newsletter of June 7 referenced the weird responsibility of local police… training and re-training private alarm customers that subscribe to services of private security providers.
It is not so weird…. It is happening all across the country, thanks to the decade of heavy promotion by the Security Industry Alarm Coalition/ SIAC.  It is imbedded in the “Model Ordinance”, aka a Trojan Horse, which off-loads this major cost and training responsibility, to law enforcement from local, licensed, private security providers.  We believe SIAC is contributing to the abuse of the sensitive relationship with local police, diluting emergency response for traditional monitored alarms.

electronic contracts

 Ken,
I am looking into converting the agreements we purchased from you into electronic documents.  I looked at the company on the alarm exchange that offers help in doing this and wonder if anyone on your blog has had good luck with them.   We currently use MicroKey for our service and billing program.
