SimpliSafe and Ring used for commercial
*************************
Ken.
Long time reader of your articles. I’ve been a tech and sales person for over 25 years in the alarm industry.  I’m seeing more and more SimpliSafe and Ring security system being put into small business.
I’ve bought and bench tested both these systems.  These systems operate on Wifi with cell back up, but they continue to try to reconnect to Wifi up to 6 min before using built-in cellular.  How can states allow these systems be used in commercial business? In my eyes the general public is being lied to.  Is there any way to push for laws to stop this madness? Thank you.

The technical issue is beyond my expertise.  I don’t know how these systems communicate.  I assume that both companies tout the efficacy of their systems and that would include how quickly they communicate a signal.  Though these systems are often thought of as residential systems I suppose the equipment will work in a commercial setting as well.  You wonder about laws but I don’t believe there are any laws that mandate communication for security systems.  I doubt these systems are permitted in any commercial fire alarm.

Comment on SimpliSafe alarms signals from article on May 31, 2023

Ken
Regarding the May 31, 2023 newsletter and the SimpliSafe claim of “an alarm signal every 15 seconds?”
“And once SimpliSafe  gets the signal, police are “on the way!”
          I did a little “Simplimath!”
“Every fifteen seconds” - Four Signals per minute = 240 Dispatches per hour = 5760 Dispatches per day – 172,800 Dispatches per month – 2,073,600 Dispatches per year.  WOW!
While the average alarm subscriber does not care the professionals in this industry should care.

Seems like a lot of alarms.  I wonder how many alarm signals are actually communicated in a year and how many are attributed to ADT and SimpliSafe?
