Ken,

I learn from you and your newsletter everyday.  I have a question about PERS.  I am aware of some companies in our state that install PERS systems and monitor them at a third party station.  They do not have an alarm license. Do you feel a company should have a State Alarm License to install PERS?  Specifically I am asking about South Carolina, but I am curious from a global perspective.

Keep up the good work,

Dave Whittington, CPP, SET

ANSWER:

PERS is not always regulated as an alarm or security system so you won't find it in the state alarm license laws.  The PERS units are often sold or leased by companies who ship the units for self installation all over the country.  The monitoring companies, though licensed in the jurisdictions were they are required to be, are not required to be specifically licensed for PERS.  This is the general rule.  If you know of jurisdictions where PERS is licensed, either for sale, installation or monitoring, let us know.

Ken:

This is very interesting article, in that, contract renewals are almost always taken for granted when clauses are written for automatic renewal.  My agency reviews these particular contracts on a bi-annual basis to assure that situations like this do not occur.

Where to find prior email articles?

QUESTION:

Ken,

We have purchased your contracts and religiously read your e-mail newsletters (Q & A) that address  industry issues.

Normally, I retain at least 2 months of your e-mails as a current reference.  I leave them in my "old mail" in the AOL account.  Somehow, I managed to erase all but the last 3 e-mails.  Obviously, they should have been placed in "saved mail"!

Is there any way that I can access your past Q & A e-mails?

Steve
