Pers webinar by PERS DEALER PROGRAM - TOMORROW - MAY 17, 2013

Ken,

I am going to be having a PERS webinar on Friday May 17th. We will be discussing our medical alert dealer program. Under the program we handle all of the customer service, billing, support, and even send out the equipment for free to the subscriber. All the dealer needs to do is sign the customer up and we handle it from there. Once sold the dealer will have a $10-$15/month revenue for the life of the account. Could you mention it somewhere in your daily email? The webinar starts at 3:00PM EST and the link to register is below. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Question

Hi Ken,

Quick questions about PERS. What about the parents children signing the contract instead of the parent? What if I am shipping the unit out of town for install sometimes hard to get signatures will email verification work?

Love your articles,

Thanks

Dave

Often an elderly subscriber is unable to sign a PERS contract; it's OK for the adult child to sign as the parent's agent.  The contract should note that the child is the agent.  Make sure your contract clearly provides who is responsible for the payments under the contract, parent or child.

The contract doesn't have to be signed if there is another writing that refers to the contract and acknowledges consent.  Thus, an email should be sufficient, especially when dealing with DIY systems.  However, this is not the best practice.  I strongly recommend requiring the PERS contract which provides for monitoring to be returned to you, signed, before monitoring begins.  I think most central stations that have their act together will require this.

Question - Do you need a separate corp for PERS?

Do I need a separate corporation to start selling PERS?

No need for a separate corporation; you won't run your operation separately anyway, so the only one you'll be fooling is you.  Same answer for the question - do you need separate corporation to sell monitoring service?  i.e., breaking your business into separate corporations for selling, installing and servicing, and another one for monitoring.  Again, unless you are going to carefully operate independent corporations there is no point having more than one.  Carry proper and sufficient insurance - and use proper contracts - to protect you.  Setting yourself up as a potential dead beat [in case you suffer a loss - which is why you're creating more than one entity] from the get go isn't going to work or enhance your operations or business value.
