More on Work from Home
*************************
Ken, thank you for continuing to keep this subject in the spotlight, and I’d like to offer a response. If you can get this out before next Tuesday (for TBFAA convention notice at the bottom of my email) that would be great.

Ken
Clearly, I take issue with permanent Work From Home [WFH] and will continue to work to expose the TMA and UL committee members who voted for this dangerous allowance.
Responding to Mr. Hertel (and all other TMA and UL committee members):
I worked with TMA and UL in the beginning of Covid to draft and support the original Temporary WFH during a declared disaster event.  I stand by this work to this day. No one really knew what was going to happen. Despite Texas remaining open and free, we were forced to recognize and address states that were not so lucky.
TMA worked—successfully, I might add—to have CISA declare alarm dispatchers as essential employees to ensure no interruptions in monitoring.
Question for your readers: If alarm dispatchers were declared essential employees, what was the need for a permanent WFH allowance?
I’ve been a vocal opponent of Permanent WFH, from day one.
Regarding Dispatch Center specifically and what we did during the initial days of Covid:
We sent non-dispatchers (Data Entry, IT, and Dealer services) home for 2-3 months until the uncertainty of Covid subsided, and environmental controls were implemented within our CO.
Dispatchers, our CSM, and I continued to work in the office.
To my knowledge, I have the ONLY proposal currently in UL’s system to REMOVE Permanent WFH, proposed in MAR 2022.  The proposal, PR38128, is still “stuck” in UL for reasons I do not know (is it purposely being held? I’m not sure)
Here is a link:  https://csds.ul.com/ProposalRequest/Details/38128
I do not agree with any reason to vote Yes to PERM WFH if you do not support it. A vote Yes, regardless of reason attempting to justify, continues to allow Perm WFM.
Regarding “market forces will determine what we end up with “– I cannot disagree strongly enough.
We do not manufacture or sell widgets. We protect property and lives. Any lessening of a standard, a standard designed to ensure a minimal acceptable response (especially regarding the protection of lives) should NOT be left for the market to sort.
For those that can travel and are interested, the Texas Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (TBFAA) is having its annual convention next week in San Marcos Texas (https://www.tbfaa.org/annual_convention_trade_show.php).
It’s free to attend and topics like this are welcomed for discussion.

I’ve yet to see anyone come out and support, or even justify, work from home.  We know that “allegedly” some central stations still support and permit work from home operators.  Dealers, you really need to find out where your central station stands and get something you can legally rely on, such as an affidavit from an officer, so when the work at home operator makes a mistake and the central station demands indemnity from you, you will be able to defend claiming fraud.  And if you can’t get the affidavit you need to re-evaluate your choice of central station [and maybe increase limits of your insurance coverage].

Central Stations series: Why You Should Be Monitored By Our CS
Hear from the leading central stations and “Why you should be monitored by” that central station.  The topic of remote operator monitoring from outside the central station facility and the dynamics that issue presents is sure to come up.  The question you need to be asking is why isn’t your central station participating and why are you still using your central station if it’s not participating?
