It started as a joke. When Ken and I get together just for a "catch up chat" there's usually a lot of kidding, some real leg pulling, and occasionally, we actually talk business. This time around, it was two old friends just kibitzing. I'm not sure how it started, but I think KK asked me how well my books were doing, and when I answered, he paused (usually when this happens, he is either asleep or thinking), and said something like: "I bet I can sell more of your books in one day then you guys do in a month!". The key word in that statement was "sell". I took the bait, we did some more kibitzing and the next thing I knew Ken was offering his clients MY book, at no charge, as a Christmas present from him. In New York, they call that chutzpah. In retrospect, I call it great marketing. We actually sent out over 250 books with orders still pouring in.
KK made 250 of his clients and subscribers to his newsletter a nice Christmas gift. We at DMAG added over 250 potential clients to our list. And those who ordered the book, have a great start to finish read on how business transactions are done in the alarm industry. For those who are not interested in buying or selling their companies, I've been told that it's a great book on sales technique, closing and creating new customers. I think it's a win for KK, a win for DMAG and a win for the reader. And those are the kinds of deals that all of us like to do! So, to everyone who ordered the book, my thanks, my gratitude and my best wishes for a happy holiday. And to KK… My sincere appreciation for his friendship and some of his great ideas.
