first moves when getting a claim from subscriber for burglary

Ken
Our commercial subscriber suffered a burglary.  The central station messed up; it's operator received an intrusion alarm and then tried to verify the break in by checking the cameras.  Unfortunately the operator didn't check more than one camera and didn't see the illegal activity in real time.
The subscriber is now looking to us to pay them. Subscriber's counsel is asking for all kinds of information and records.  I feel like telling them it's the central station's fault, but as you know we indemnified the central station from claims. What should we do?  We do have the commercial all in one signed and we do have insurance coverage.

Your first move must be to notify your carrier.  The carrier is entitled to prompt notice. Ideally your carrier will provide immediate advice and assistance. though most of you probably have not had that experience when you've gotten a claim and reported it.
After notifying your carrier you should let the subscriber or its counsel know that you've notified your carrier and ask them to be patient for a response to their inquires.
Settling the matter with the subscriber, for practical reasons, might make sense, but be careful not to make any admissions of guilt or liability; you are offering to settle merely as a matter of customer relations.  This option won't be attractive to you if the claim is substantial, which you can define as in excess of your deductible and potential premium increases.
Hopefully you have the Rider to Dealer Agreement in place so that your indemnity to the central station is capped at your insurance coverage.  If not, hope the claim is within your coverage limits.
