QUESTION:  DIY AND 3 DAY NOTICE OF CANCELLATION
******************************
Ken
Thanks for all the great info.  On the DIY systems do they have to exercise 3 day waiting period?   Thanks

The 3 day notice of cancellation has less to do with a professionally installed system or a DIY [do it yourself] system than with how the system was sold to the subscriber.  If sold door to door then you need the 3 day notice, even for DIY.  If sold over the internet then you don't need the 3 day notice.  Careful with telephone solicitations.  You may need a different license to do telephone solicitations and there may be cancellation policies different than the 3 day cooling off notice that is required for door to door sales.

QUESTION:  DOCUSIGN
*****************************
Ken,
I am considering using "DocuSign", an online service that allows clients to digitally sign a contract online. If you believe that a digitally signed contract would be as acceptable as an actual signature, then this will greatly streamline my work in getting new clients signed up as well as in dealing with renewals.

Electronic format and execution are perfectly legal and fine; just do it right.  Presumably a company like Docusign knows how to comply since it's its business.  I don't have any experience with Docusign.  Anyone else have comment on that or other electronic service?

COMMENT ON SUBCONTRACTOR

Ken
You should have also highlighted the needed arms length provisions to maintain the contractor /subcontractor relationship vs the sub being considered an employee by the government or plaintiff/subrogation counsel.

Thanks, but that is topic for another article - making sure your subcontractor is really a subcontractor and not an employee.  Actually a written subcontract agreement would tend to be used by a real subcontractor and not an employee.
