QUESTION:

contract updates, & changes are a daily occurrence... I'm concerned about my existing customers that have been with me fore 5+ years - worried that older contracts aren't going to protect like an up to date version. would it be possible to mirror the credit card companies tactics, & send out a new 'terms & conditions' to all our subscribers, informing them they are under new rules & regulations?

could we inform subscribers on their billing about the new 'T & C' document giving reference to a website where they can log on, & view the document?

appreciate your advice -

ANSWER:

This raises interesting issues, and I admit I don't have the answer.  You should make it a practice to update your contracts and to update your subscriber contracts.  I have advocated that rather than depend upon renewal clauses that you get your subscriber to sign new contracts.  Not always practical, but the better method.

Following utility companies may not work; they are governed by tariffs, alarm companies aren't.  Your contract would have to provide that you could change terms after sending notice, but the subscriber would have to have the right to cancel.  I don't see this as a viable option.  Stick with new contracts.  But if anyone has a better idea, let's hear it.
