In our experience, and to our continued surprise, having good contracts for every customer is one of the biggest deficiencies we still see. The good news is we have a proven system for obtaining new contracts consisting of an email, mail and phone follow-up campaign and using electronic document services such as DocuSign. Two additional comments regarding your checklist: 1) As a lender, we would prefer to say, “use debt strategically” instead of avoid debt. For example taking out a loan to make an acquisition is certainly a good use of debt. 2) Following your checklist will benefit a dealer TODAY even if they are not contemplating a sale for many years.
