Ken,

Although I understand the challenges with keeping a clients medications up to date, having this information available during an emergency can be very important.  What I don’t understand is why Greg believes that Two-Way Audio Verification is time consuming.  Through my 30 years in this industry, with a great part of that spent building and operating central stations, I have found that Two-Way Audio is actually faster from start to finish when the logistics are carried out properly.

This response is not a communication of criticism, but one of advice.  I am certain that it would be in Greg’s best interest to review how Two-Way Audio can be a very efficient method of verification.

KEN

PERS operations has taken on full exposures for Fire, Burg. & Med/911 due to the monitoring company responding to any call received over the PERS System- Insurance Coverage is hard to find due the Plug & Play Installations not professionally Installed--- and the PERS Dealers high loss retro.   In my view Insurance coverage needs to be for all PERS “Completed Operations” this includes General Liability and Network “Cyber” Liability.

KEN—THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR E-NEWS

additional comment on free alarms

***********

To all

My remarks may sound harsh to some but they are intended to help you recognize that some of these remarks in the industry about free alarms are just plain out stupid remarks. What is stupid is the lack of training we provide to people in this industry. By the way the ADT contract does not say that. There are two versions dealer and corporate one says they own the other give the option. Further  89% of intrusions are through a door is also incorrect. The statistic says that a door was used however it does not differentiate if the door was used for entry or exit. To say that there is no difference between a home with more protection vs. basic is also stupid.  It stands to reason that a properly protected home is more than a improperly protected home.  Have you ever bother to lift every window in a walk-through? I do guess what I win all the time because I ask them do you lock all your windows and they say yes, and most of the time I find one that was not locked or looked locked but was not.

Basic systems should be considered as starter sets to make entry easy however every prospect should be taken through a needs analysis. The lack of experience in this industry has resulted in lack of skill and the result is sales people that think 3 doors and a motion is the way to protect a home. Most people could not even tell you what UL is and even though we don’t issue residential systems often in the business why not adopt such a scope as a model. Basic, expanded or total protection. This is what the model should be based on. You would not believe the systems I have seen, the package came with 3 doors and a motion and the home had 4 doors so the placed the motion watching the fourth door. The home had two doors and the system had 3 sensors so they placed the extra sensor on a window. Someday a person will enter through the other window and harm someone and a judge and jury will be asked by the prosecuting attorney, why that window, where was your crystal ball? And the homeowner will testify that they were willing to spend whatever money necessary to protect the home because grandma was home all alone, and now after this criminal entered the she (use your imagination) Now what ?

Basic free systems offer basic protection to people that have an empty home most of the day, they want the peace of mind knowing the home is monitored. This industry is full of inexperienced people managed by inexperienced people that don’t know anything about the industry or how to properly meet a family’s needs. While I’m sure many of you do a great job the mass of this industry has taken the value out of what we do. For example , Company “A” giving three doors and a motion for $99 bucks so company “B”  offers the same plus 3 free windows and a smoke for the job. Who wins?  Some would say the customer but no,  because the most important elements were missing no standard followed on what were protecting and why and no needs analysis to help bring that out. $99 systems offer 110% better protection than what they have but that should be a platform to build on based on needs not greed’s. I encourage every person in this industry to build a model that allows the consumers to learn about the various levels of protection and help them design a system based on the needs they have, use a good contract and you will help restore the missing integrity in this industry. I sell those two thousand dollar systems all day long to those people that called me because they wanted the $99 system. It’s called marketing not deception. If that’s all they want or can afford that’s all they get. But they know the difference when were done. If you tell most people the truth without trying to attack the competition most people will listen.

As for the carpet, that’s a no-no and a trip and fire hazard. There is no argument between which is better wireless or hardwire , the right answer is whichever technology will give the customer the needed protection. I have 75,000 wireless devices in service. They are supervised, we and the customer know if the battery is dead so who ever posted the previous comment about a dead battery should go back to school and start using the supervised mode.
