Comments on how are alarm companies handling "Ambush" alarms from Sept 11 2013 article

If the homeowner want the police to enter. Put a KEY box on a side door handle. Have the central station tell the police what door to go to and the combination of the KEY box. That way the police can go inside and check the home.

I will date myself with this.

Before Central Station connections I sold a device called "A Rat Fink".  When you turned off your alarm, you had to push a hidden push button, within 20 sec, or the regular alarm sounder would

sound. (I think it was made by a LI NY Co called Mayday)

With regard to the term AMBUSH alarm or DURESS alarm there is a dichotomy between how the Law Enforcement Community and the Alarm Community view the SAME ISSUE.  Perhaps alarm people say DURESS because it does not Conotate the same level of danger as AMBUSH.  In fact they are both the same. An ambush occurs when without warning someone lying in wait to attack seizes the opportunity when the victim is least aware.

A DURESS alarm indicates to the central station that the person DISARMING THE ALARM is doing so under DURESS. (or threat of harm etc.. bad person is there.)  A duress alarm is sent by the panel when the DURESS code is used. This is a distinct and separate code from the normal DISARM code, but appears to do the same thing. DISARM THE ALARM.  Having supervised a municipal police comunications center, I can say police departments and monitoring stations have for years used DURESS, PANIC and other terms synonymously when in fact they are quite different. Law Enforcement  (and alarm people) should be made aware that a DURESS ALARM could be the start of a HOSTAGE SITUATION and is not the standard hit and run crime with violence.

From my muddled mind....

comments on employees clocking in and out - liability issue for employers

***********************

Another reason to sign in (out) when leaving the job site and a much better explanation for why we are asking this of them. Could Cody come up with an automated way to make this more feasible in our manpower?

Ken,

Great question on the clocking in and out.  Also protects the employee if they have issues with all the documentation.  In a former position, I occasionally stopped at another business location on the way home for various reasons.  I am salaried (no clocking in/out) and have accidental coverage for work related injuries/death.  I always made a point to document this in my Outlook calendar and notify the admin.  If I were ever killed in an auto accident I am sure the insurance company would argue I was on my way home.
