ARE SERVICE TICKETS THE BEST PRACTICE

Ken
We are a full service Fire Alarm/Security Company in California. I recently added the Fire Sprinkler portion to the business and we plan on doing more testing/service/repairs in the near future.
We spoke to our insurance agent and he claims that the best way to limit our exposure to liability (especially being in the Fire Protection industry) is to have customers sign a document each time we perform a service at the client site.
In your professional opinion what do you recommend our procedure be?
Kind Regards,
J

Fire suppression services carry the same kind of exposure as fire alarm services.  We created a Fire Suppression All in One that provides the same protection as the fire alarm contracts but details the fire suppression services.
Getting "a document" signed at the time of service [or completion of installation] is a good suggestion, but a "service ticket" or "completion certificate" is not a substitute for a Service Contract [which is included in the All in One forms].  Why?  For starters, Service Tickets or Completion Certificates [or whatever you want to call your "document"] is not likely to be presented until the work - installation or service call - is completed.  You may find that there is no one with authority to sign the document or no one inclined to sign the document.  You end up leaving without the document.  You are also without any negotiating strength if your subcriber decides to strike all the "protective" provisions from the Service Slip.  Your work is complete and you're half way out the door; not much you can do at that point.
There is no substitute for the Service Contract.  You can use a service ticket and completion ceritifcate in conjunction with the Service Contract.
