When you’re done thinking about updating your contracts [which you should do immediately] you should take a few moments to think about how you’re going to thank your employees for helping you get to the point you’re at [at least you’re able to take the day off]. Whether you’re the owner, manager, supervisor, team leader or you’ve got one assistant to assist, it’s time to say thanks [or goodbye perhaps, as the case may be – them not you]. Most businesses, and the alarm industry sure isn’t exempt, have trouble finding great employees. What’s a great employee? Well, I think it’s one who not only gets the job done, but enjoys doing it and takes a personal interest in doing it right and loves doing it. Hopefully you fit that criteria as the owner, manager etc. The security and fire alarm industry especially needs employees who are more than just content; they need to be devoted and diligent about their work; they are responsible for life safety and property. Their indifference to excellence can mean the loss of life and significant property damage, ending and disrupting many lives and businesses. You already know about this awesome responsibility because you feel it yourself. Perhaps you have gone through rigorous training and license processing, constant continuing education or learning on the job – you’ve made it your livelihood, your occupation, your career and hopefully you’re devoted and happy working. Keep in mind how much of what you do, and what you’re responsible for, you’ve delegated to your employees or others. They need to feel about performing their tasks just as you would and do. So when you get back to work tomorrow remember to show some gratitude, even if it’s just a thanks. Also keep in mind that while you were “off” some of your staff were working or on call, to make sure your undertakings and responsibilities were covered.
