What are standard moving fees?

Question:

Hi Jennifer,

I took a job in Tallahassee.  What are standard moving fees I should be paid or reimbursed?

Thanks,
Dr. M

Answer:

Well, I can't say there is an overwhelmingly standard here as with other items, such as CME or CE.  Those are easy - $3,000 is still standard.  Moving expenses are probably paid about 50% of the time, and in most cases, simply deducted from Base Compensation.  Oftentimes the moving expense paid is recoupable if you do not stay employed for a mandatory period - likely 24 months.

if you are moving for a position, I recommend asking for not less than $10,000 as reimbursement for  moving expenses.  All the respective employer can do is say is no!
