Question:
Hi Jennifer,

I'm having a hard time contacting our practice waste removal company.  They are terrible and I would like to terminate.  Any advice?

Thanks, Dr.  P

Answer:
With waste removal, you may or may not have signed a formal vendor contract. You may have just received a purchase order or no contract at all.  If there is an agreement, the agreement would likely have termination procedures that must be followed for the vendor to stop billing you.  In all likelihood for waste removal, you have signed an evergreen (forever) contract or, a very long term with auto renewals.   You may also have signed very restrictive termination language, requiring you to non renew as opposed to terminate. Depending on the provisions, there may be certain consumer protection laws available to force the waste management services to accept an earlier termination, or not.  Unfortunately, like all contracts, the time to worry about how to get out, and plan for an exit, has to start at the beginning, before you sign.   Let us know when you run out of runway with the current company and if you require assistance.  Also, next time, let us know BEFORE you sign if you have questions
