Question:

Hi Jennifer,

I received a note from the Office of the Inspector General saying they audited me. The second page is a list of terrible acts they said I shouldn't do.  What is this?  I do take Medicaid and I am concerned I have an obligation.

Thank you for your answer.
Dr. K

Answer:

Doctor, you are not the only one receiving a love note from the Office of the Inspector General.  From what I can glean from the letter, an audit was already completed and the documentation matches the billing.  No overpayment demand is being made at this time.   Seems for this instance, you are in the clear.  However, it is important to always READ CAREFULLY and recommended to HAVE REVIEWED any correspondence by the government or a payor. There is (for some) a time to be chintzy and a time to be sure you are in the clear.  Have any letter reviewed!  Do not rely on this newsletter that the letter you receive next is the same as the one you send over for me to check!
