In response to the recent public health scares, the Office for Civil Rights has promulgated a helpful Bulletin: HIPAA Privacy in Emergency Situations, which compactly reviews those circumstances where a practitioner may disclose patient protected health information to the patient's family and friends, the government, the media, etc.
