Ken:

Question:

>What insurance companies are out there that will rate accesscontrol, CCTV, telephone systems, ect. differently than security. This isan area that we have been contesting with our present carrier.

Thanks,

For response I turned to Alice Giacalone. Her response follows:

Ken,

In response to Jim's question, insurance carriers all handle this issue alittle differently. You need to make sure that all of the appropriateunderwriting is provided to the carrier. In specific, the percentages ofrevenue that are derived from the different exposures. Access control andCCTV are still classified as security and present a possible E&O exposure. While telephone, central vac, intercom, etc do not.Depending on the size of the dealer and the split of revenue, a lower ratefor the non-alarm exposures can be justified. I mention size because if thedealer is close to a minimum premium the insurer might not go out of theirway to create a separate class code for the lower exposures if it onlyresults in a $100 difference in premium. Please pass this message on and advise them to contact me if they wouldlike to obtain alternative quotes.Thank you,Alice Cornett Giacalone Senior Vice President Berrian Insurance Group800-917-2542

There are several insurance carriers out there for e&o - I've cautioned youabout selecting them solely based on the lowest premium. There are lots ofother considerations.
