    Multiple Alarm Systems

It is not uncommon in extremely high end businesses to be required to have 2 alarm systems.  Usually this is required by the underwriter.  Our UL Central Station did "backup" another system.  ADT was the only other UL listed Central Station so we were secondary to them.  As stated, be sure that you don't disturb, use or circumvent any of the other companies equipment.  When testing be sure that both centrals are notified to avoid any conflict.  We had no problem with the arrangement and neither did ADT.

Ken - on the "Can there be two systems at the same prem?" question, there may be significant ramifications for fire signals. We have encountered local fire codes specifically stating that it is not permitted for fire signals to be relayed from two separate systems at the same premises. Could even be an NFPA 72 (National Fire Code) issue, but one of the code experts on this string can make that call.  Thanks for the constant stream of information, with some entertainment thrown in.

Ken,

It will be a challenge for a second alarm system to be connected to the same phone line as the original system without the systems interfering with each other (the stipulation that radio is being used as back up and that two-way voice is a feature of the system implies the use of a telephone line - obviously, the use of a second telephone line would make this conflict go away).

We use a product called Pro Bill.  This product does all our billing, we don't use credit cards, in any cycle we choose.  We send a zipped email to them, they process the info and send out an invoice with return envelope.  Anyone that wants to streamline their billing or get away from their monitoring company doing the billing, go to http:\\probill.com/alarm.htm and check them out.  After an initial layout of less than $400 each piece of mail is about 11cents above postal rate.  You can also send out any kind of information newsletter etc thru your account base.  It is possible they can do credit cards, never asked since we don't take that kind of payment.  Since you are using their software posting and transactions are easily achieved.  Their support is excellent and they have never caused a billing problem.  BTW they also send out statements to help nudge your customers that forgot to pay on time.

Thank you Ron Moore for your take on this "wonderful example" of someone in this industry and has claim to represent it.  You know they're out there waiting to make lives miserable and don't have a grasp of reality, technology, or respect for each other and need to blame everyone for their own faults.

And thank you Ken for exposing these folks who just don't get it.

Ken,

Why does an alarm have to tell time. KISS (keep it simple stupid)

If you don't show the time, they won't miss it. The correct time will not generate additional

revenue. As far as I am concerned, the only perposed for the correct time is for the event log.
