UL Standards and Engagements recently conducted a formal ballot on a Work Remotely proposal for CAN/ULC 561 - Standard for Installation and Services for Fire Signal Receiving Centres and Systems. The ULS&E 500F1 Technical Committee voted 19 in favour and 17 against Work Remotely. In accordance with the ULS&E Accreditation Manual the proposal failed to attain consensus despite the simple majority. The proposal can be re-activated. The Canadian Security Association represents Canadian installation, service and monitoring companies. We are currently conducting a poll of Canadian Monitoring Companies to determine whether we should continue the initiative to have Work Remotely incorporated into our fire and intrusion alarm monitoring standards. I appreciate that many contributors to this forum have expressed their negative thoughts on this matter. This is a request for responses to the poll from Canadian Monitoring Stations AND any U.S. based central stations that are providing services in accordance with CAN/ULC 561. With respect to those individuals who may approve of, or disagree with the concept of Work Remotely, we request that only stations that provide CAN/ULC 561 services respond. Here is a link to the poll. If necessary responders can copy and paste the following into a browser to access the poll: https://forms.gle/xoWGadeh8GwjLH8SA The identity of the poll responders will be kept confidential – only the poll results will be published. The poll is open until November 20/23. Thank you for everything you do for the betterment of the security alarm industry.
