I have never seen so many companies racing to the bottom trying to compete against DIY. The same panic occurred when the cable companies as well as the phone companies in my area first entered the alarm industry. Everyone thought it was the end of the industry, as well as the world. Allowed by law but, there are numerous pitfalls the untrained person is unaware of and will soon find out. Face it…..it’s here to stay. There will always be DIY within any trade. (weekend carpenters, plumbers, and electricians) TV home renovations shows make everything look easy. Concentrating on improving your company’s professionalism greatly reduces DYI and the other guy you think is a competitor. A company that’s not as good as you are …. is not a competitor. Competition forces you to be the best you can be. If you think they are better than you, find out why and beat them at their own game. Caring for your clients gives you the best source of referrals and professionally eliminates competition.
