            My response to Rich is:
Let's just imagine if the alarm industry had a National organization that consisted of powerful influencers in the alarm trade that could use that influence to organize such a program. Wouldn't that be a great starting point?
            OH! WAIT! WAIT A MINUTE!
Isn't there some kind of group out there that professes to be working for the best interests of the alarm industry? You would think that a self-professed National organization would be ideal to promote and organize something like this, Right? Jeez, I think there's some kind of group but the name escapes me. Ya know, because you never hear about anything that they do. You never hear from them except that there's going to be a meeting or something or that they've started another program that mostly benefits the members. I know you know who I mean. You know, it's that group who abandoned all the alarm associations after they sucked up membership fees from alarm association members for years until the well ran dry but never gave anything in return.  Jeezz I wish I could remember the name of it. Oh well, It'll come to me eventually. Likely when I'm sitting on the toilet.

Gene, one of these days you have to really let us know how you feel about alarm associations, especially the national ones.  These organizations have the respect of AHJs and those in the industry and many of their guidelines are codified into law.
The NRTLs are private and I assume "for profit" and if not certainly concerned with raising and making money.  They should be working closely with the alarm industry any way they can; I suspect most if not all of them do.
The associations, at least the one that are left, are all doing their best to survive and be relevant.  The electronic alarm industry isn't unique in this association problem; all organizations, especially those comprised of volunteers, are suffering and experiencing the same survival issues.  I don't care to speculate why, but those that do continue to participate do derive personal satisfaction and those that don't participate derive whatever benefits the association manages to accomplish.
If anyone is interested in participating in any alarm association and having trouble "breaking" in, let me know; maybe I can help facilitate an introduction. Any alarm association that isn't interested in new participants needs to reconsider that position and fast.
Associations can list their information on The Alarm Exchange without charge.  Send me the post.
