Jim Wooster Sr *********************** Response *********************** Short and concise advice. Here’s some good and bad news on the buy-sell topic. The good news is that I sense the multiple is drifting up. Sellers with “best practices” are seeing 35 to 40 times RMR [instead of 30-35 range]. Also good news, the sale process is speeding up, at least on my sales because I don’t tolerate the endless due diligence requests from the not so sure or reliable buyers. Most Sellers should expect to close the deal within 3 to 4 months of listing. Sure, some deals take longer but that’s usually because it’s more difficult to find a suitable buyer, not because the due diligence needs 6 months to a year to conclude. The bad news is for the Buyers; they need to move faster on a deal and they need to pay a bit more than they expected. The above is based on my experience brokering the deal and providing the legal services. I can’t speak to the process when I am not involved, but I doubt similar results. It’s too late to list and close this year, 2024, but it’s not too late to start positioning your company for sale in 2025, a topic to be addressed in future articles.
