Not sure where you are located but in most of Virginia the only POTS (analog) lines belong to Verizon. A few years ago Verizon wanted to spin off all of what they call copper and become Verizon Wireless only. The FCC would not let them out from under the tarriff so they still offer Fios and in those locations where there is no Fios, POTS. If you have an old POTS line in an area where Fios is introduced, they will no longer support POTS and are forcing customers to go Fios. The good news about Fios is that it is passive. It is powered from the telco end, unlike cable, but similar to POTS so if you can keep power on at the customer they still have phone service. The rural customers that still have POTS lines pay dearly. I have customers that are paying $60 to 80.00 per month and more. What has been hurt the most is rural pharmacies in VA. The pharmacy board requires dual path communications with central stations and some areas have no internet, no fiber, poor cell service and dual POTS lines come in on the same cable. It's a mess. You got to love technology.
