Ken,
Any thoughts on licensing requirements, specifically in NYC, for the
installation and monitoring of Carbon Monoxide detectors? Do they represent the
same licensing problems as do the devices for fire detection in NYC? Perhaps
there is a distinction in whether it is a commercial or residential install.
Does this even fall under the state burg/fire license?

Answer:
First NYS alarm license - it's required for security protective devices.
You need an alarm license unless you are selling a stand alone device that
plugs into an electric outlet. For licensing law and further detail - see

Regarding NYC fire department, I turned to renowned expert Ron Petrarca,
advises as follows:

I talked to the Fire Inspector about this issue a week ago... CO Detectors are
permitted to be dispatched to the FDNY without a terminal and box assignment
provided two conditions are met:
1. A CO Detector may not be dispatched as a Fire Alarm (some
central stations actually practice this procedure, and they should NOT)
2. Natural gas detector alarms are also accepted in NYC. Upon dispatching to
FDNY, it must be clear that the dispatch is the result of a CO Detector and not
a fire alarm.
