Question:
Jennifer,
What's the deal with job ads. Do I have to post the salary? Did that new law go into effect?
Thank you,
Dr. K
Answer:
Yes, as of September 17, 2023, all ads have to post a "salary range" for all positions where an employee is physically located in New York State, or report to a manager located in New York State. The law also requires posting of a job description, and maintenance of records showing compliance. Failing to comply may open the employer up to civil fines. For those reading in New York City, yes, you've had the same requirements since November 2022 (https://www.nyc.gov/site/cchr/media/pay-transparency.page); the rest of the state is now catching up.
