With regard to the CENTRAL STATION NOTIFICATION OVERLOAD ISSSUE it is easy to see how the overload can affect the infrastructure of a central station. For one minute give thought to the recent storm on 10-29-11 and then look at the massive damage to the communications infrastructure in CT.

All of the major cable carriers were down. This now takes out INTERNET, CELLULAR and TELEPHONE for both home and business, large and small. (((Comcast, Cox, AT&T and Verizon)))

Now the central stations get clogged with failure to deliver notifications or never get notified at all.

When the power goes out taking all communications links down simultaneously there is electronic bedlam.

The faster we move information when things go right, multiplies the backlog when things go wrong.

In response to Morgan's comments on receiving signals and central station alarm flow; depending on which software package one uses and how one manages these calls this should not be a problem.

In this day and age there are a lot of organizations and agency's that are here to "help". Where there is help, there is a price attached. Many years ago an organization touted the latest software to go directly into the 911 center. After researching I found out that their would be high costs associated with using the software unless one was a member. If this software was to be used it would also leed to the 911 center not allowing other centrals to phone in alarm calls. This is similar to the idea of one central station trying to license all central stations.

While some of the ideas are good and can be helpful, I see most of them as self serving and self enriching.

Yep, as you guessed it, I am not for these people dressed in sheep's clothing trying to corner the market in the name technology advancements for the good of all..... they are still wolves!

Why do we still use the phrase "act of god" to describe natural disaster? Is God really "acting up"? I wouldn't know. I never met him.

I just want to say thank you for continuing to follow up on this. This last newsletter adds light to the subject and I believe I am ready to move forward with our Central Station's Storm Mode Policy.

I’m glad to see the feedback from across the country on this topic. Anyone who is current on weather trends should be able to foresee that we are in store for more and more years like this. This will prove to cost the economy billions in insurance claims (to start) which, I believe, can ultimately start affecting our industry's livelihood. This is why I consider this to be very important to us all, including UL.
