COMMENTS ON NON COMPLIANT FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS FROM JULY 9, 2015 ARTICLE
****************************
Ken,
The suggestion that something is better than nothing made me think about a new product we distribute. The wireless device monitors existing UL smoke detectors using a microphone and processor that detects the sound of a smoke detector in alarm.  If the smoke detectors are interconnected, you only need one to monitor the whole house. It is designed to be a cost effective way to add residential fire alarm monitoring to a 2GIG, Honeywell, Interlogix, or DSC system.
A number of alarm companies are offering this product as an alternative to installing additional smoke detectors.  Would you recommend a separate disclaimer notice for this device or would your Standard Form Agreements suffice?
Thanks,
Jake Voll

The Residential All in One and the Commercial All in One provide sufficient protection for all security devices and all devices connected to, or designed to function with, the security system.  That would include smoke detectors in residences.  For commercial fire you should be using the Fire All in One.  As far as a separate Disclaimer Notice you should be using that for with the All in One agreements; it provides additional protection and also works are a great selling tool.

What's in a word?  With regard to fire alarm systems.........We (the industry) provide DETECTION NOT PROTECTION.  If it were the other way around smoke detectors would be called smoke protectors.
Only sprinkler systems offer a level of protection.

Exactly, and the Standard All in One agreements make this crystal clear.

Thank you.   I'm totally okay with missing out on jobs where the customer decides to go with someone providing less equipment. Knock on wood but we are 13 years in with 0 losses. We do full perimeter systems every time or explain that we're probably not the right company for them. I started my business with real protection in mind and saved a lady's life in my second year- this made me very passionate about this business. Potential customers will tell me what (national company) can do for $99 and I say, "We actually want to do everything possible to save your life and I can't do that for $99"- after this statement, the customer normally says, "good point- let's do the installation".
