Comment On Radio Communication - Hackers And Liability From August 2, 2014 Article
***********************
I wonder what the FCC is doing to protect the consumers (and national security). Manufacturers of scanner radios were required to restrict cellular band, manufacturers of communication equipment have to pass strict tests and pay licensing fee, illegal receiving of paid satellite TV channels lands people in jail, but it is OK to break into ADT radios and publish it step-by-step. While it may be good that someone with legitimate intent explores the security of communication (and the internet) to find holes and patch them, publishing the steps and tools required is not OK. That's like publishing someone's name, address and all the dirt you can find. Keep in mind that ADT customers are PEOPLE entitled to privacy and protection.

Just a minor correction to Keith's radio comments.
It was not the military that invented spread spectrum technology. They may take credit but it was Hedy Lammar.

Video and law enforcement
****************************
Ken,
Video verified alarms reached a milestone this month with the FBI National Academy actually putting video verified alarms on the cover of their magazine.  http://www.ppvar.org/_asset/2kb8ju/FBI-Academy-embraces-PPVAR-video-verification---Cover-Article.pdf  The article describes how the PPVAR (Partnership for Priority Video Alarm Response) has worked with law enforcement across the country to help define best practices and fight property crime.
Law enforcement is on our side.  The National Academy trains the best and brightest of law enforcement (police and sheriffs) and sends them back to jurisdictions across the entire USA to influence their local departments.  They have embraced video verified alarms as a force multiplier to help make arrests and fight property crime.
The PPVAR is now working with the FBI National Academy to help implement training based upon the recently completed PPVAR Best Practices.  http://www.ppvar.org/_asset/qjfks6/video-verified-alarms-best-practices.pdf
Law enforcement needs a force multiplier to compensate for declining budgets and video verified alarms deliver.

Re small companies buying public stock
***********************
Ken
I never said that Tyco's split up was due to Dennis Kozlowski going to jail. I did say that the split happened after he went to jail. I can understand that you might feel that an inference was made. John you seem like an intelligent man. The only reason I felt the need to opine was simple.

#1-we (as an industry) spend far too much time whining about our competition.

#2 we place far too much importance on the multiple we think we might get.

#3 I do believe "God takes care of those who take care of them selves"

# 4 I think that we can both agree, (that when it comes to retirement) it's best not
to have your "all your eggs in one basket".

I never did the math, nor did I  believe alarm company owners would go out the next
day and buy up ADT stock. I simply was trying to provoke thought. I am going to ask Ken to foward my email address to you, since I am interested in your investment stratergy.
