Question - camera position

************************

Ken,

I have a business owner who would like to put a couple hidden cameras in her workplace in Massachusetts to keep her eye on her business partner without him knowing. The cameras would be for the register and working area. Does she have the right to do this to her partner ? Am I legally OK to provide a service for her without her partner knowing?  Thank You

Ken,

With the increased level of crime and terrorism like what happened in Kenya recently,a property owner around town is considering whether it is necessary to have somebody to review footage on a weekly basis and what advantages this will bring to him.The most disturbing thing is what if nothing happens...is it advisable to sack the CCTV operator?

Answer

A private person, commercial property owner or homeowner, can install cameras that will cover public areas, or concentrate on the owner's property.  There is no duty to view those cameras.  If requested by law enforcement or subpoenaed you will be required to produce what you have stored.  Absent some statute or contractual duty there is no requirement to store video data for any period of time.

You can protect yourself with camera surveillance by using the CCTV Sales [or Lease] or the Residential [or Commercial] All in One contract.

The CCTV sales contract is specific to CCTV or Streaming video.  The All in One contracts cover those services as well as all other electronic security systems.  Update your contracts at www.alarmcontracts.com today.  Do you need an update?  Yes if your contracts were not purchased in 2013.
