Wisconsin and New Mexico are the latest states to add restrictions affecting contractual automatic renewal statutes.  You can read the statutes at http://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/autorenewal.htm

Wisconsin's is quite different because unlike the others it does not apply to consumer contracts, only business contracts.  I am not going to go through the details because my Standard Commercial Lease and other Standard Contracts that are designed for commercial use [such as the Fire Alarm Contracts] will comply without any changes.  All automatic renewal terms are month to month.  I find the statute confusing, but since the statute will not affect my Standard Forms I'm not going to go into further detail.

New Mexico's statute is typical; it's for consumer contracts, not commercial.  This statute does permit renewal for  two months.  This statute also clearly specifies that failure to comply with the statute is "deceptive business practice".  My Standard Form Contracts will comply with this statute without revision and without any notice requirements.
