Many of you know within a month of taking my bar exam I started my first job as an associate in healthcare and was immediately placed on a committee at the New York County Medical Society, before even being admitted to the Bar.  In the years that followed, my relationship with organized medicine and dentistry continued to grow.  Now, with my days spent addressing your matters, I have to remind myself sometimes to take the time to continue to support our community, and to continue to serve organized medicine and dentistry for the benefit of you, my clients.

So, I am taking today's newsletter to encourage each of you to remember your medical and dental societies you once were active in, or potentially thought about joining or running for a position.  It is with organized medicine and dentistry, no matter how potentially flawed the organization, that you have a voice dedicated to maintaining the integrity of your profession.  Whether through your professional society, State or county society, I encourage you to pay your dues, attend meetings when you can, encourage mentees and mentors to partake, and have your voice heard. No one else will do it for you, and if you do not do it, through legislation, law suit, and lobbying by insurance and large institutions, protections for your profession will inevitably be chipped away further.  Heed the call. Be ware of the story of the optometrist. If for no other reason then I discount my fees because of your membership, please consider being active!

Sincerely,
Your Protective Healthcare Attorney
