Question:
Hi Jennifer,
I have been offered a new job I am excited about. Should you be negotiating salary or me? This is my first position so I am not really sure what to do...
Thank you in advance,
Dr. P

Answer:
Congratulations on the new offer (and finishing training)! This is a great question and very timely since 'tis the season.... Certainly you shouldn't be signing without a lawyer reviewing, however, as to your particular questions about salary, I recommend YOU speak with your contact at the employer (hopefully the doctor you will be answering to once you accept, if applicable), for a few reasons, including but not limited to: (1) it will be harder to say no directly to you; and (2) You asking requires you stand on your own 2 feet, which will be necessary at some point relative soon with a new employer, regardless. Now, if you ask and they say no, or you are directed to the attorney, or you just absolutely oppose asking, yes, we can ask for you.
