We have been in business for twenty years in Collierville, TN. We are not the model of perfection but we have survived and we have thousands of customers with a little less than half monitored. We bought Sedona Office and failed to implement the software. It is for large companies with a big staff. I am not the only one that knows this so buyers beware. I lost more than $5k. I know a Triton award winner who lost over $30K and failed to implement Sedona.
I found Z-Micro right here on your forum. I liked it because of the Ipad, Iphone interface but when I checked them out they are a solid 20 year old (or more) east coast software company (that moved to Arizona) with billing and service management as the basis. They also have the bells and whistles. The price is right and the service is good. (they imported quick books for free) Most important….my employees now think I’m smarter and they like it.
I feel you should have gotten a commission on the deal. My next big goal is to purchase all of your contracts.

There are many different accounting and business management solutions available for security companies to run and operate their business. What's most important is finding the right fit for the company. I would recommend anyone looking for new software to explore all their alternatives very carefully. There are a few companies that specialize in the security industry, I would suggest starting with these companies first, as they know the industry and have the best solutions for the majority of alarm companies. Second, schedule a product demonstration to fully understand the software and make sure it has the features and functionality to meet their needs. Third, talk to references and other security companies using the software they are interested in. Talk to companies both your own size and larger (if you plan on growth). Fourth, understand what's required to implement the software. You need to know what the software company is going to do, such as data conversions, training, project management and setup. You also need to understand what is required on your part; resources, IT, hardware, operating systems and database management software. Making a decision about new software is all about how your company will be better able to run and operate, how it will become more efficient, how it will help you better service and retain your customer, how it will make you more money and become more valuable. This is one of the most important decisions a company is going to make. It will have consequences on the company for years. I hope this helps.

Court ruling on warrantless video surveillance

Keith Jentoft, president of RSI Technology, the makers of Videofied www.videofied.com sent in an article regarding a recent Federal District Court ruling that was reasonable for Drug Enforcement Administration agents to enter rural property without permission -- and without a warrant -- to install multiple "covert digital surveillance cameras" in hopes of uncovering evidence that 30 to 40 marijuana plants were being grown. Keith of course is a leading proponent of monitored video services, which can be a primary detection service or back up for verification purposes. This ruling affect law enforcement, not private parties. It addressed the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution which prohibits unlawful search and seizure by government officials. In this case DEA placed covert cameras in an open field to record marijuana farming.
The significance to the alarm industry is the issue of privacy, which is an issue that does affect alarm companies offering CCTV and property owners and CCTV end users, all of whom want to know where cameras can and cannot be placed. The placement issue usually revolves around expectation of privacy. The marijuana field case is significant to the extent that the Court held that there would be no expectation of privacy in a rural open field.
How about camera placement that views beyond the owner's property into adjoining property? How about cameras that are positions directly into neighbor's property? Is the camera looking at a fence line or the neighbor's backyard, back deck, outdoor pool, or bathroom window?
