Communication is a key to good employee/employer relations. So ask questions re their job and then LISTEN. Be prepared for criticism. Make sure if you do this exercise with one service tech you do with all. Etc. Speaking of communication this forum offers a communication platform found nowhere else in our industry. Whether you expected to provide a basic tool or you did not .. You do . So thank you Ken and company. At one point I also owned each of my IP addresses and considering doing this again. If you own your own numbers/IP addresses the central station is less likely to play these nickel and dime games knowing you could move on to another central station with minimal effort. This is a great bargaining tool. Will have to assume if you are being charged a line usage fee because they own these lines, and you are renting/leasing them. Jason ***************************************** Response ***************************************** That’s interesting comment because I thought it routine for the cs to own the lines, not the dealer. That is the case in most dealer – cs relationships and the dealer does need to be very careful to make sure the CS Dealer Agreement is modified by the K&K Rider to Dealer Agreement. One modification is that the cs agrees to transfer the line to another cs as long as the dealer is not in breach of the dealer agreement. I don’t know the logistics if the dealer owns the line or what the economics would look like. Perhaps cs experts can advise the pros and cons of a dealer owning the line. ********************************************* More on replacing landlines from article on December 13, 2024 ********************************************* Ken I concur with Stan on the challenges of effective alarm communication in our industry. We're fortunate in California that we still have traditional POT lines mostly available through AT&T but they're obviously itching to lose those due to maintenance costs (as they claim). With all that said, as an industry, you would think we could develop secured effective means of communication but as you pointed out they're all kinds of holes in what we currently have available As my grandma use to say "we could send a man to the moon but we can't...." (you can fill in the blanks). It's ironic that in an age that some young punk can (allegedly) "print" a lethal firearm at home but we as an industry can't figure out basic full proof secured means of signal communication. Regardless, I still have faith and admiration for our industry who basically gave the world the means to capture people like this via extensive networks of sophisticated state-of-the-art CCTV systems out there. Let's all keep the faith and encourage our industry's manufacturers to figure out the equation for robust, effective and super secured communication paths moving forward. Dan ********************************** Response ********************************** It’s not the alarm industry tasked with creating effective communication; you’re not in the telecommunication industry. No doubt that advances in communication will be coming soon and likely to exceed our present imagination. ********************************* STANDARD FORMS Alarm / Security / Fire and related Agreements click here: www.alarmcontracts.com *************************** CONCIERGE LAWYER SERVICE PROGRAM FOR THE ALARM INDUSTRY - You can check out the program and sign up here: https://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/concierge or contact our Program Coordinator Stacy Spector, Esq at 516 747 6700 x 304. *********************** ALARM ARTICLES: You can always read our Articles on our website at ww.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/alarm-articles updated daily ******************** THE ALARM EXCHANGE - the alarm industries leading classified and business exchange - updated daily ************************* Wondering how much your alarm company is worth?
