Ken,
            I just read your article on "your kids in the alarm business" and it brought a smile to my face. Thanks for offering your perspective. I share much of it.
            I actually started in the "alarm business" back in 1966 at 14 years old. I worked with my dad who was a police officer who worked many side jobs. By age 16 I was installing alarm jobs with my 12 year old brother. My dad would sell the job, set us up and leave us alone to install it. He confidently convinced customers to overlook our ages and we never disappointed him or the customer. 
            My son, Steven, got involved at age 12 or 13 (he is a natural with electronics and work ethic). By age 17 Steven was servicing our APB customers. After he graduated college, I offered him ownership in Statewide Central Station. Steven took Statewide to a new level both technically and nationally with multi-state licensing.... To me, it was one less child to worry about career wise.
            Shortly thereafter, my daughter, Pamela, accepted my offer of heading her own firm (Statewide Fire Corp). She had learned about the "alarm business" by working for APB during her summer months off from school. She too has the brains and work ethic to succeed in anything she endeavors to do. Eddie, a trusted friend and all around great guy, joined the firm as a partner and together they grew a very successful wholesale fire alarm central station. Both are well known for their fire expertise and level of service, especially in the New York Metro area.... Another child not to worry about career 
            Financially speaking, my parents could never afford to buy a home, but thanks to their encouragement for me to stay in the "alarm business" my wife and I are able to live comfortably, and my three children are doing even better than us.  Isn't that how it's supposed to be?
            And since your article triggered my email, I'd like to thank you wholeheartedly for your contributions to the "alarm business". Your wisdom, insightfulness, knowledge and informative articles has benefitted an endless number of people and families (generations in some cases) in the "alarm business".  We all know that you say what you believe without hesitation (even when hesitation may be the better option). It comes with the package I say.
But you've more than earned every nickel, every friend, every satisfaction and every other benefit that your efforts have produced. 
            So at this time of reflection as we approach 2021, on behalf of my family, my extended family, and the many people you have helped over the last 40 years, I thank you and wish you and your loved ones continued success, happiness & health in 2021 and thereafter.
