Recognition of old timers in alarm industry

******************

Metropolitan Burglar and Fire Association of New York, one of the older alarm associations in the country, is having a special dinner to honor "old timers" [defined as those in the industry for 35 years or more]. Even if you're not from New York MBFAA would like to recognize and honor you. I qualify so I'll be there, and so will Ron Davis, who will be the night's master of ceremonies. It's going to be a special and great night - and all are welcome. If you qualify for an honor please let MBFAA's able Executive Director, Alan Glasser know - so your honor and plaque are ready !! See below for this October 6, 2011 event. It's not too late to participate. contact Alan Glasser, Executive Director, MBFAA at 718 894 6712

This was reported on AOL's Huffpost news on September 19, 2011. Is it possible that an alarm professional was involved in any of these alleged installations? Certainly anyone who reads this forum knows that cameras in bathrooms are not permitted, especially those positioned to see the toilets. Well, someone has to keep us lawyers busy.

"Virginia Family Sues Starbucks Over Hidden Toilet Camera"

***********

"WASHINGTON -- If you use the restroom at Starbucks, you might want to look under the sink first. A Virginia family is suing the coffee chain in D.C. Superior Court because of a hidden camera positioned under the sink pointed at the toilet in a unisex restroom at the Starbucks location at 7th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue downtown. As WTOP reports:

[William] Yockey determined the camera was on and recording digital images.

Police were called, and the video camera was confiscated for a criminal investigation.

Yockey and his daughter suffered "permanent and continuing emotional pain and suffering, humiliation, embarrassment and great emotional distress."

It's not clear who put the camera in downtown Starbucks in question, but this isn't the first case of a hidden camera in a Starbucks restroom. A Connecticut man was arrested for installing hidden cameras in restrooms in the Hartford area, two at Starbucks, one at a gas station and another at a Subway restaurant, according to the Hartford Courant. The man, Paul Deveau, was charged with 12 counts of voyeurism.

There have been similar incidents in San Diego, Glendora, Calif., and Brandon, Fla."

Hi Ken,

This raises an interesting point. Large vendors often require that we indemnify the client. If we want to bid, we have to accept the risk. We then turn around and have them sign our agreement that states that they indemnify us. How would this play out if something went wrong? Who’s clause wins? I realize that this is likely way to open ended for you to provide a concrete answer as there are likely too many variables (ie: verbiage of indemnification clauses).

Hello Ken

I am just reading this post and have this thought to add. As a cacti expert I feel this is not really an invasion of privacy as the law state reasonable expectations of privacy so if you have the door open you should not have expectation of privacy. If I open my front door of my home anyone who walks by on the sidewalk or drive down the street and looks inside my home is not invading my privacy.
