Webinar:  Champlain Towers South building collapse / alarm and security issues

Topic:  Hear from the fire alarm expert who serviced the fire alarm system and was intimately involved in the litigation involving Securitas Security.                 Some information that you should be aware of before the presentation:  Florida requires a voice evacuation system that provides speakers in every apartment so there can be floor by floor or building wide communication to evacuate.  This fire alarm system had that system and it was working.  Securitas provided security guards stationed at the building.  When the first fire alarm signal came into the security desk the guard did not determine the cause of the fire alarm or the zone, and did not utilize the evacuation system to alert residents.  Securitas has settled the Plaintiffs case paying over half of the almost one billion dollar settlement.

          When we do fire alarm work, we not only supply paper CAD drawings, since the Client/Subscriber is paying for the work; we also provide them with the electronic files.  What is code?  What is practical? What are potential landmines to the practice?

Town requests contract changes

          We have a potential job for the fire alarm for a police station for a town. The town attorney wants a number of lines deleted:
  *  the penalty for delaying our work
  *  indemnity
  *  subcontractors
  *  collection and arbitration provisions
          We updated to your latest Fire All in One contract in January 2022. Should accept them. We normally do not accept changes to your contract.

          Not accepting any changes to the Standard Form Agreements, including the Fire All in One, is too rigid a policy.  One of the best benefits of the Concierge Program is a monthly credit for contract review of $250.00, a great deal since the Concierge Program only costs $145 a month; and that’s only one benefit.
          Municipalities have certain statutory constraints when entering into contracts, so there’s little point trying to negotiate with them on certain issues.  Among the provisions they typically won’t agree to are the indemnity, penalty and arbitration, so your town attorney hit them all. 
          There are many other “protective” provisions in the Fire All in One so you can accept these modifications.
