TYPE A (Full Burglar Alarm, Access Control and CCTV)

Electronic Protective System License Types

1. TYPE A FULL BURGLAR ALARM, ACCESS CONTROL AND CCTV, includes license types B, C, D, D-T, E and F


2. TYPE A-1 SINGLE STATION FIRE ALARM IN 1 & 2 FAMILY DWELLINGS, includes license types G and H

ACCESS CONTROL:
Means an electro-mechanical lock, electronic lock, or electronic locking arrangement designed to control access or egress to a premises or controlled area.

ALARM CONTRACTING:
Means providing an electronic protective system access control, or a closed circuit television alarm system to another by any means, including but not limited to the sale, lease, rent, design, planning with the intent to
prewire, prewiring, installation, maintenance, repair, testing, modification, improvement, alteration, inspection, or servicing of an electronic protective system, access control, or closed circuit television alarm system; holding oneself or one's company out for hire to perform any such task; or otherwise offering to perform any such task for compensation, either directly or indirectly.

BURGLAR ALARM OR BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEM:
Means an alarm, alarm system, or portion of such an alarm or system intended to detect or warn of an intrusion or other emergency not including a fire, in a structure.

CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION ALARM SYSTEM:
Means an alarm sytem that provides video surveillance of events, primarily by means of transmission, recording, or transmission and recording of visual signals through the use of cameras, receivers, monitors and other visual imaging systems.

LOCKSMITHING:
Means the modification, recombination, repair, or installation of mechanical locking devices and electrical or electronic locking systems for any type of compensation and includes the following:

1. Selling, designing, repairing, rebuilding, recoding, servicing, adjusting, installing, manipulating, or bypassing of a mechanical or electronic locking device for controlled access or egress to premises, safes, vaults, safe doors, lock boxes, automatic teller machines, or other devices for safeguarding areas where access is meant to be limited.

2. Operating a mechanical or electronic locking device, safe or vault by means other than those intended by the manufacturer of such locking devices, safes, or vaults.

3. Consulting and providing technical advice regarding selection of hardware and locking systems of mechanical or electronic locking devices, safes, or vaults.

4. Selling, designing, repairing, servicing, adjusting, and installing closed circuit television alarm systems.
5. Selling, designing, repairing, rebuilding, recoding, servicing, adjusting, and installing access control devices.

TYPE "B" LICENSE - (Technician)
Authorizes holder to design, plan, specify, layout, sell, pre-wire, install, maintain, repair, test, inspect or service an electronic protective system while in the employ of a licensed Burglar Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV
Contracting Companies.


Note: (Requirements - Certificates for ABAT and FAIM or equivalent which is ABAT & NICET Level III in Fire Alarms)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "C" LICENSE - (Installer)
Authorizes holder to design, plan, specify, layout, sell, pre-wire, install, maintain, repair, test, inspect or service an electronic protective system while in the employ of a licensed Burglar Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV
Companies.
Note: (Requirements - Level 1 or its equivalent, Continuing Education Unit
Certificate for 1.2 units is required at renewal for Type "C")
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain twelve (12) hours of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "D" LICENSE - (Apprentice)
Authorizes holder to pre-wire, install, maintain, repair, test, inspect or service an electronic protective system while under the direct supervision of a Type B or C license holder and while in the employ of a licensed Burglar Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV Contracting Companies.
Note: (No certifications are required)
Note: No CEU's required for apprentice.

TYPE "D-T" LICENSE - (Temporary Apprentice)
Thirty day maximum.
Note: (No certificates are required)
Note: No CEU's required for apprentice.

TYPE "E" LICENSE - (Sales/Designer)
Authorizes holder to design, plan, specify, layout or sell an electronic protective system while in the employ of a licensed Burglar Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV Contracting Companies.
Note: (Requirements - Understanding Alarms Training Course Certificate)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain four (4) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "F" LICENSE - (Provisional Sales/Designer)
Authorizes the holder to perform duties of a Class E Salesperson except this individual must take sales training course within 12 months while in the employ of a Burglar Alarm, Access Control, and CCTV Contracting Companies.
Note: (Class "F" can not be renewed without an Understanding Alarms
Certificate)
Note: No CEU's required.

TYPE "G" LICENSE - (Technician)
Authorizes the holder to design, plan, specify, layout, sell, install,
maintain, repair, test, inspect, or service single station fire alarms while
in the employ of a single station fire alarm contracting company.
Note: (Requirements - Fire Alarm Installation Methods Course Certificate is
required for Class "G")
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

 

TYPE "H" LICENSE - (Apprentice)
Authorizes the holder to perform the functions of a Type G licensee while working under the direct supervision of a person holding a Type G License.
Note: (There is no certificate needed for Class "H")
Note: No CEU's required.

TYPE "I" LICENSE - (Locksmith Technician)
Such license shall authorize its holder to engage in locksmithing services while in the employ of a licensed Locksmith, Access Control, and CCTV Contracting Company.
Note: (Requirements - Taking a locksmith test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, submitting a certificate from an approved locksmith course or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged
in locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "J" LICENSE - (Locksmith Shop Technician)
Such license shall authorize its holder to engage in locksmithing services only within the confines of the operating location of the locksmithing services while in the employ of a licensed Locksmith, Access Control, and CCTV Contracting Company.
Note: (Requirements - Taking a locksmith test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, submitting a certificate from an approved locksmith course or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged
in locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "K" LICENSE - (Apprentice)
Such license shall authorize its holder to perform the functions of a Type or Type J license while working under the direct supervision of a person holding a Type I or Type J license.
Note: (No training is required)
Note: No CEU's required.

TYPE "I-2" LICENSE - (Limited Locksmith)
Such license shall authorize a company to engage in locksmithing services as to mechanical locks for premises and mechanical, electrical or electronic locks for controlled access to safes, vaults, safe doors, lock boxes,automatic teller machines or other devices only.
Note: (Requirements - Taking a locksmith test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, submitting a certificate from an approved locksmith course or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged
in locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "J-2" LICENSE - (Locksmith Shop Technician, limited)
Such license shall authorize its holder to engage in locksmithing services as to mechanical locks for premises and mechanical, electrical or electronic locks for controlled access to safes, vaults, safe doors, lock boxes,
automatic teller machines or other devices only within the confines of the operating location of the locksmithing services company employing such individuals.
Note: (Requirements - Taking a locksmith test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, submitting a certificate from an approved locksmith course or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged
in locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.)
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

TYPE "L" LICENSE - (Closed Circuit Television Alarm System Contractor)
Such license shall authorize its holder to engage in closed circuit television alarm system contracting only.
Note: (Requirements - Taking a CCTV test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, successful completion of a standardized program approved by the board and acceptable to the State Fire Marshal or demonstrate that the individual has been actively engaged in closed circuit television alarm system contracting for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.
Note: Effective January 2007, you will be required to obtain six (6) hours
of continuing education units (CEU) at the time of renewal.

ELECTRONIC PROTECTION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRMS


A. Each Electronic Protection System Firm shall be physically located within the boundaries of the State of Louisiana. Every office (whether main or branch) which is located in Louisiana must be licensed. Only offices physically located in this state can legally conduct alarm contracting.


B. Type A Firm must have at least one employee who holds a Class B license at each of its operating locations.
Type A-1 Firm must have at least one employee who holds a Class G license at each of its operating locations.
Type A-2 Firm must have at least one employee who holds a Class I or J license at each of its operating locations.
Type A-3 Firm must have at least one employee who holds a Class I-2 or J-2 license at each of its operating locations.
Type A-4 Firm must have at least one employee who holds a Class L license at each of its operating locations.
Note: The Class 'B, G, I or J, I-2, J-2 or L' license holder must live within 150 miles of the office he/she qualifies. He may only qualify for one office.

C. INSURANCE DOCUMENTATION: A current copy of the firm's insurance certificate made out to the State Fire Marshal MUST be attached with an application. The amount of coverage should be no less than $500,000.000.
There is no set amount of insurance for Locksmith companies at this time.

It should include the following:

1) General Liability
2) Errors and Omissions
3) Worker's Compensation

* TYPE A-2 (Locksmith, CCTV, Access Control), TYPE A-3 (Limited Locksmith) and TYPE A-4 (CCTV Alarm System Contracting) firms are NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE ERRORS AND OMISSIONS COVERAGE.

* Certificate of Insurance Must include the Policy Number, Date of Expiration, Physical Address & a Statement noted in the descriptions of operations that firm is insured for the type of services provided.
(Example: Burglar Alarm, Access Control, CCTV, Locksmithing)

D. A COMPANY CHECK OR CERTIFIED FUNDS ONLY MADE PAYABLE TO "OFFICE OF THE
STATE FIRE MARSHAL" MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH AN APPLICATION! NO CASH OR
PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED.

An Original License Fee is $250.00 - ($200.00 license fee and $50.00
application fee)
A Renewal License Fee is $50.00 - (Due yearly on expiration date)
A Duplicate License Fee is $20.00 - (To replace a lost, stolen, or
destroyed license)
A Revision License Fee is $20.00 - (To change any information about the
company)
A Late Renewal Fee is $250.00 - (15 days past expiration date)

E. Firm must be located in the State of Louisiana. Firm cannot have a P.O.
Box for a physical address.

F. Submit Documentation from Secretary of State's Office if company is a
Corporation.

G. Submit Occupational License from Local Government for all Firms (Corp.,
Partnership or Individual)

NOTE: YOU SHOULD NOTIFY THIS OFFICE WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS, BY USE OF AN APPLICATION, IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE FIRM'S BUSINESS NAME, ADDRESS, OR OWNERSHIP, THE DESIGNATED AGENT'S EMPLOYMENT STATUS, OR IF ANY OWNER, PARTNER, OR PRINICPAL WITH AN INTEREST IN THE COMPANY IS CONVICTED OF A FELONY OR ENTERS A PLEA OF GUILTY OR NOLO CONTENDERE TO A FELONY CHARGE.

* For Type A-2, A-3 and A-4 firms, an affidavit must be submitted stating length of service with the firm or cerfiticates of completion submitted from an approved standardized program.

ELECTRONIC PROTECTIVE SYSTEM REGULATIONS & REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYEES
1. Applicants must first pass a National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association Burglar/Security Training Course or it's equivalent commensurate with the type of license the applicant wishes to receive. There is no training
requirements for the Type "D", Type "H", Type "K" Licenses. If this is an initial application, you must submit a copy of the certificate received for the requested license type.


a. For Type "B" license you will be required to submit certificates for ABAT
and FAIM or equivalent which is Level 2A and NICET Level III in Fire Alarms.
(Effective January 2005, you will be required to obtain a least six (6)
hours of continuing education (CEU) at the time of renewal).

b. For Type "C" license you will be required to submit certificates for
Level 1 or its equivalent or a continuing education unit (CEU) certificate
for 1.2 units.

c. For Type "E" license you will be required to submit a certificate of
completion of Understanding Alarms Training Course or Residential Upstart
course.
d. For Type "F" license you will be required to submit an Understanding
Alarms Certificate.

e. For Type "G" license you will be required to submit a Fire Alarm
Installation Certificate.

f. For Type "I" or "J" licenses you will be required to take a test (which
includes locksmithing, CCTV and Access Control) issued by the State Fire
Marshal and making a 75% or better or submit a certificate from an approved
locksmith course (see list of courses) or demonstrate that you have been
actively engaged in locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to
August 1, 2004.

g. For Type "I-2" or "J-2" licenses you will be required to take a
locksmithing test issued by the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or
better or submit a certificate from an approved locksmith course (see list
of courses) or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged in
locksmithing for a minimum of five (5) years prior to August 1, 2004.

h. For "Type L" license you will be required to take a CCTV test issued by
the State Fire Marshal and making a 75% or better, successful completion of
a standardized program approved by the board and acceptable to the State
Fire Marshal or demonstrate that you have been actively engaged in closed
circuit television alarm system contracting for a minimum of five (5) years
prior to August 1, 2004.

2. Applicants must attach two (2) color photographs of themselves that are
one (1") inch by one (1") inch and shows the whole face. Failure to do so
will result in a delay of the process. We CANNOT process the application
without the photos!

3. Please submit a photocopy of the applicant's Driver's License. This will
enable our office to verify required information in case of illegible
handwriting.

4. Please submit License Fees with COMPANY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY MADE
PAYABLE TO OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL. NO PERSONAL CHECKS OR MONEY
ORDERS ACCEPTED.

Fees are as follows:

Renewal License Fee is $50.00 Due yearly on or 60 days prior to expiration date

FIRM REQUIREMENTS
FIRE LICENSE DEFINITION AND TYPES
Class A (Portable Fire Extinguisher) Authorizes a firm or employee
to engage in the activity of installing or servicing portable fire
extinguisher and low pressure hydrostatic testing which is not required by
the U. S. Department of Transportation. (U. S. DOT) NOTE: High pressure
hydrostatic testing requires a U. S. DOT Hydrostatic Testing Permit and a
Class E certificate from this office.

2. Class B (Pre-Engineered Fixed Fire Extinguisher Systems) Authorizes a
firm or employee to engage in the activity of planning, certifying,
installing or servicing pre-engineered fixed fire extinguisher system.

3. Class B-1 (Pre-Engineered Kitchen Fixed Fire Extinguisher Systems Only)
Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the activity of planning,
certifying, installing or servicing pre-engineered fixed fire extinguisher
systems containing wet or dry chemical agents within a kitchen ventilation
system.


4. Class C (Pre-Engineered & Engineered Fixed Fire Extinguishers) Authorizes
a firm or employee to engage in the planning, installation, inspecting,
servicing and certifying of engineered or pre-engineered fixed fire
extinguisher systems. NOTE: Firms applying for Class C license must have an
employee on staff designated as the qualifier that holds a NICET Level III
in Special Hazards or a Professional Engineer with a Mechanical Engineer
endorsement. This engineer must be registered with the Louisiana Board of
Professional Engineers. The firm must submit the qaulifier's application
along with a signed and notarized affidavit. (Note: A new notarized
affidavit and a copy of NICET Level III card or certificate or Engineer
certification is required at the time of the firm's renewal).


5. Class D (Fire Detection & Alarm) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage
in the planning, installation, inspecting, servicing, supervising and
certifying of fire detection and alarms systems. NOTE: Firms applying for
Class D license must have an employee on staff designated as the qualifier
that holds a NICET Level III in Firm Alarms. In lieu of the NICET, the firm
may employ a Professional Engineer with an Electrical Engineer endorsement.
This engineer must be registered with the Louisiana Board of Professional
Engineers. The firm must submit the qaulifier's application along with a
signed and notarized affidavit which is included in this packet. (Note: A
new notarized affidavit and a copy of NICET Level III card or certificate or
Engineer certification is required at the time of the firm's renewal).


6. Class D-1 (Non-required Fire Alarm) Authorizes a firm or employee to
engage in the activity of planning, installing, supervising and certifying
fire detection and alarm systems in structures or occupancies which are not
required by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 to be protected
by an approved fire alarm and detection system.


7. Class D-2 (Minor Service & Repair to own Fire Alarm Systems) Authorizes
an owner of a fire alarm system or his employees to perform routine
inspections & minor service & repairs of fire detection and alarm systems
within the owner's own facilities only. No planning, installing or
certifying of these systems/equipment is permitted.


8. Class E (Hydrostatic Testing) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in
hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers manufactured in accordance with
the specification and procedure of the U. S. Department of Transportation.
Please note that this license only applies to high pressure testing required
by U. S. DOT and that low pressure testing NOT required by U. S. DOT can be
done by Class A firms. Also, there is no State Fire Marshal competency test
for this class of license, but applicants must provide a copy of the U. S.
DOT certification for their firm in order to receive this license.

 


9. Trainee (Training on the Job) Authorizes an employee to engage in installing, inspecting maintaining and servicing portable fire extinguishers, fixed fire extinguishing systems and/or equipment of fire alarm and detection systems and/or equipment while under the direct supervision of a licensed technician who holds a current and valid license for the work to be performed. A trainee can not certify any equipment or system. The supervising technician and trainee must work for the same firm which must be certified for the work to be performed. A trainee license can be renewed annually as long as the individual or firm desires.


FIRM REQUIREMENTS AND ATTACHMENTS


1.) Application form MUST be completed along with all required signatures.
NOTE: Firm cannot have a P. O. Box for a physical address.

2.) If firm is not physically located in the State of Louisiana, company must indicate an Agent of Service.
3.) A current copy of the firm's insurance certificate made out to the State Fire Marshal MUST be attached with this application. (Coverage should be no less than the amounts listed for each class!)

Certificate of Insurance MUST include the policy number, date of expiration, and physical address of each contractor location. Contractor's operation of business MUST be noted in the description part of the insurance certificate.

4.) A company check or money order made payable to "OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL" Must be submitted with the application. NO CASH OR PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED.

5.) Submit Documentation from the Secretary of State's Office if the company is a Corporation.

6.) Submit Occupational License from Local Government for All Firms (Corp., Partnership or Individual) if contractor is located in the State of Louisiana

7.) If firm is going to perform high pressure hydrostatic testing, company MUST apply for a Class E (Hydrostatic Testing) and Class A license and submit U. S. DOT permit.

8.) Submit An Affidavit and Current Nicet Card/Certificate if the company carries a Class C and/or D License.

NOTE: YOU SHOULD NOTIFY THIS OFFICE WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS, BY USE OF THE APPLICATION, IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE FIRM'S BUSINESS NAME, ADDRESS, OR OWNERSHIP, THE DESIGNATED AGENT'S EMPLOYMENT STATUS, OR IF ANY OWNER, PARTNER, OR PRINCIPAL WITH AN INTEREST IN THE COMPANY HAS LEFT THE COMPANY BY RESIGNATION, TERMINATION, OR DEATH.


EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS
FIRE LICENSE DEFINITION AND TYPES
Class A (Portable Fire Extinguisher)

Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the activity of installing or servicing portable fire extinguisher and low pressure hydrostatic testing which is not required by the U. S. Department of Transportation. (U. S. DOT) NOTE: High pressure hydrostatic testing requires a U. S. DOT Hydrostatic Testing Permit and a
Class E certificate from this office.


2. Class B (Pre-Engineered Fixed Fire Extinguisher Systems) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the activity of planning, certifying, installing or servicing pre-engineered fixed fire extinguisher system.


3. Class B-1 (Pre-Engineered Kitchen Fixed Fire Extinguisher Systems Only) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the activity of planning, certifying, installing or servicing pre-engineered fixed fire extinguisher
systems containing wet or dry chemical agents within a kitchen ventilation system.


4. Class C (Pre-Engineered & Engineered Fixed Fire Extinguishers) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the planning, installation, inspecting, servicing and certifying of engineered or pre-engineered fixed fire
extinguisher systems.


5. Class D (Fire Detection & Alarm) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the planning, installation, inspecting, servicing, supervising and certifying of fire detection and alarms systems.


6. Class D-1 (Non-required Fire Alarm) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in the activity of planning, installing, supervising and certifying fire detection and alarm systems in structures or occupancies which are not required by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 to be protected by an approved fire alarm and detection system.


7. Class D-2 (Minor Service & Repair to own Fire Alarm Systems) Authorizes an owner of a fire alarm system or his employees to perform routine inspections & minor service & repairs of fire detection and alarm systems
within the owner's own facilities only. No planning, installing or certifying of these systems/equipment is permitted.


8. Class E (Hydrostatic Testing) Authorizes a firm or employee to engage in hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers manufactured in accordance with the specification and procedure of the U. S. Department of Transportation. Please note that this license only applies to high pressure testing required by U. S. DOT and that low pressure testing NOT required by U. S. DOT can be done by Class A firms. Also, there is no State Fire Marshal competency test for this class of license, but applicants must provide a copy of the U. S.
DOT certification for their firm in order to receive this license.

9. Trainee (Training on the Job) Authorizes an employee to engage in installing, inspecting maintaining and servicing portable fire extinguishers, fixed fire extinguishing systems and/or equipment of fire alarm and detection systems and/or equipment while under the direct supervision of a licensed technician who holds a current and valid license for the work to be performed. A trainee can not certify any equipment or system. The supervising technician and trainee must work for the same firm which must be certified for the work to be performed. A trainee license can be renewed annually as long as the individual or firm desires.


EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS AND ATTACHMENTS



1.) Submit completed application, signed by employee and employer.

NOTE:Employee cannot have a P. O. Box for a physical address.

2.) Submit copy of test score. Testing score of 75% or above for each classification is required. Tests are scheduled in advance and a passing score MUST be obtained prior to applying for a license. *

3.) Applicants must attach to the application two (2) color photographs of themselves (1 inch by 1 inch) and showing the whole face. Failure to do so will result in a delay in processing the license. The photographs must be sized for pocket identification.

4.) Also, please submit a photocopy of the applicant's Driver's License. This will enable our office to verify required information in case of illegible handwriting.

5.) Submit license fees by Company Check or Money Order only and made payable to "Office of the State Fire Marshal". NO CASH OR PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Fees:

Original License Fee: $50.00 for one classification and $10.00 for each
additional class added to the license. Class E is always $25.00.

Class D, D-1 and D-2 licenses - "Fire Alarm Installation Methods Course" is offered by the Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association (LLSSA), formerly the LBFAA.

Class D, D-1 and D-2 licenses - "Automatic Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems Seminar" offered by the Louisiana Automatic Fire Alarm Association  (LAAFAA). (225) 622-1015

In order to use any of these courses for licensure, you must submit a photocopy of the training certificate and submit it along with a completed application, two photographs and the necessary fees.

FIRE PROTECTION TESTING
Training & Education Documentation:

A. Firms applying for Class C license must have an employee on staff designated as the qualifier that holds a NICET Level III in Special Hazards or a Professional Engineer with a Mechanical Engineer endorsement. This engineer must be registered with the Louisiana Board of Professional Engineers. The firm must submit the qualifier's application along with a signed and notarized affidavit. (NOTE: A new notarized affidavit and a copy of NICET Level III card or certificate or Engineer certification is required at the time of the firm's renewal.)

B. Firms applying for Class D license must have an employee on staff designated as the qualifier that holds a NICET Level III certificate in Firm Alarms. In lieu of the NICET, the firm may employ a Professional Engineer
with an Electrical Engineer endorsement. This engineer must be registered with the Louisiana Board of Professional Engineers. The firm must submit the qualifier's application along with a signed and notarized affidavit which is included in this packet. (NOTE: A new notarized affidavit and a copy of NICET Level III card or certificate or Engineer certification is required at the time of the firm's renewal.)


 

 


Testing Dates and Study Material:
Important Note About Testing Dates & Times

Please check the class, the date, the time and the location of each test to be taken by the technician of installer. Tests are given at the State Fire Marshal's office located at 8181 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA at 9:30am to 11:30am and at the State Fire Marshal's Shreveport District office located at 960 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA on Wednesday afternoons 2:00pm to 4:00pm & Thursday mornings 9:30am - 11:30am. Should a test date fall on a holiday, then the following Monday (in Baton Rouge) and Monday & Tuesday (in
Shreveport) will be the designated test days. The test times will remain the same.

The fee for each test taken is $10 which means if you want to take two (2) tests the required fee would be $20.

Class E - No Test
However, firms must have a United States Department of Transportation (U.S.
DOT) letter of hydrostatic testing certification which shows the names of
its employees authorized by U.S. DOT to perform hydrostatic testing. Only
those employees who work for a U.S. DOT hydrostatic testing firm and whose
name appears on the U.S. DOT letter of certification will be considered
eligible for the Class E license.

NOTE: Testers are on their own to secure test source documents. All legally
adopted state fire codes and State Fire Marshal Office laws and rules are
available for review during normal work hours in this office only.
