Comments On - How many physician assistants may a doctor supervise at one time?

I received a very insightful email in response to yesterday's email blast on PA supervision.

To make sure that you are not only compliant with NY and Federal law and the contracts that you have entered into, you may want to check with your malpractice carrier on certain practical issues; for instance, whether you are allowed to supervise 2 PAs at one time under your policy.  The comment that I received pointed out that while NY law allows for a physician to supervise 4 Nurse Practitioners at 1 time in certain practice forums, MLMIC will only allow a physician in certain practice forums to supervise 2 Nurse Practitioners at 1 time.

Depending on the wording of the certain contracts you've entered into, whether it be your malpractice insurance agreement or agreements with managed care, non-compliance over a practical issue may carry with it grave implications, so be wary.

Thank you to our friend who sent over this insightful point.  To everyone:
